WORK: FINDING A JOB

The topic of this unit is `work´.
We´ll begin revising vocabulary about different professions. In this link you´ll find different jobs, you'll learn where the people who have these jobs work and what they do. You'll also find expressions related to 'work' and a sample of a job interview.

Now you'll have to watch this presentation and pay special attention to the video that contains the most common questions and the best aswers in a job interview

When you have seen it, this will be your final task:
The class divides into pairs.

- Each pair chooses one of the jobs in the vocabulary to work with. Half of the group will be applicants for the job, while the other half will represent the employer.
- The applicants should invent backgrounds for themselves - qualifications, experience, age, etc. The employers will have to invent details about what the company does and what the job will involve.
- Write the interviews and learn them by heart.

Long weekend in London

Soon we'll have a `long´  holiday weekend, from 25th to 27th February. A good idea could be to visit London.
You can find cheap airfares and bed & breakfasts. If you can't go it doesn't matter, you can enjoy London anyway watching this video.

Do you want to know the origin of Valentine's Day?
February 14th was designated a feast day in the Roman Catholic calendar in honour of a 3rd century Roman priest called Valentine. The Emperor at that time, Claudius II, prohibited marriage amongst his soldiers because he thought unmarried men made better soldiers. Valentine didn´t agree with him and he married couples in secret.
When the Emperor found out, Valentine was sent to prison. He fell in love with the jailer's daughter and just before he was executed, on 14th February, he wrote a message to her and signed it `From your Valentine´.

The new issue of the magazine  I LOVE ENGLISH  is in our library. Here you´ll find this Valentine's poem -often included in English Saint Valentine's cards-:

Roses are red
Violets are blue ...
Sugar is sweet
And so are you!

You´ll also find a very interesting report titled: "Young, Rich and Famous". Hurry up! Take your favourite magazine and begin reading!
